Honest. Compassionate. Supportive. Enthusiastic. That’s what we hear about Sara Harrington. Sara has practiced law since 2002. She joined the Averett team in 2018 to practice estate and probate law.

“No one likes to think about illness or death. That’s human nature. But planning for the future is necessary. My goal is to help clients gain a feeling of control by helping them plan for the future.”

Sara grew up in Sanford, NC and earned her BA in English from Wake Forest University. She then graduated from Campbell University School of Law, before taking a job working with Rufus Edmisten. After 12 years of practicing primarily consumer bankruptcy law, Sara added estate planning and probate to her practice and it wasn’t long before it became her new love and primary area of practice.

PAYING IT FORWARD

Sara developed a strong sense of community involvement and giving back in the many years she served as a Girl Scout growing up.

As a teenager, her Girl Scout Gold Award project was the promotion of environmental awareness in her community. This included starting an environmental science club at her school, giving recycling talks to every group in a 3-county area that would listen, arranging for donation of saplings to all 3-6th graders in the county school system and assisting with the planning and implementation of a city-wide Earth Day Festival.

Since then Sara has volunteered with various non-profits related to issues of the environmental, youth, poverty reduction, and education. Sara currently volunteers with Sanford JobSeekers as their Facebook manager and with the Sanford Business and Professional Women as their social media chair. She is a member of the North Carolina Bar Association Estate Planning CLE Committee and a member of the 18th Judicial District Mentoring Committee.
